Jin Shiomura

    After graduating from the Economics Faculty of Hitotsubashi University, Mr Shiomura joined Mitsubishi Kasei Kogyo, (now Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation), where he engaged in pharmaceutical sales and project management. He was then sponsored by the company to attend Cornell Business School, where he studied Management Accounting and Marketing. Following his return to Japan, he served as product manager for the company’s first pharmaceutical product, “Theodur”, and was in charge of for the pre-sales negotiation and execution of sales agreements as well as price negotiation and supplementation of effectiveness and form of the product. He then went on to display ability in his position as market release manager for several new pharmaceuticals. He is a two-time award winner from the company president, accredited for the market success in 1996 and 1999 for the product launches of Novastan and Cholebine, respectively.

    From 1999 Mr Shiomura was seconded to Mitsubishi Tokyo Pharmaceuticals, (now Mitsubishi Wellpharma), where he established and was responsible for a division specialising in supplementation of drug effectiveness and form of their provisions to the launched pharmaceuticals. From 2001 when the company became Mistubishi Wellpharma, Mr Shiomura managed the Strategic Product Life Cycle Management specialist division, where he was involved in, amongst other matters, the planning and promotion of supplementation of drug effectiveness.

    Mr Shiomura has consistently left a trail of impressive business results as the fruit of his entrepreneurial strategies, which, while acting as director for six of Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation’s subsidiaries, have been put to use in the realms of business reform in the field of medical care and pharmaceutical products, research and development, and establishment of new businesses. Number of his essays have been presented overseas. He has achieved much in the field of academic activity such as serving as an advisory board member to the 17th World Congress of the International Society for Heart Research (held in Winnipeg, Canada, in 2001). Mr Shiomura has also made numerous medical specialist contacts both in Japan and overseas.

    During his time at Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation and prior to his appointment as Representative Director President at Nobelpharma, Mr Shiomura was appointed in April 2002 the innaugural manager of the Health Care Planning Department at Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, and acted as Director for five out of the seven medical care related subsidiaries under the control of the same Department, namely, Mitsubishi Chemicals Safety Institute Ltd., Mitsubishi Chemicals Medical, Dia-Iatron, Zoegene, and GenCom, and as auditor of Mitsubishi Kagaku BCL, whilst also serving on the Reformation Committee of Mistubishi Chemicals Safety Institute Ltd. He oversaw the development of these same medical care related businesses, including Mistubishi Wellpharma, in his capacity as manager for their consolidation and capital policy.

Director and Manager of Development: Toshihide Endo

    Mr Endo joined Mitsubishi Yuka upon completion of Masters Degree in Pharmacy at Osaka University. He worked in pharmaceutical development matters at the company’s laboratory and was engaged in the development of the angina medication Perisarol, (which was jointly developed with Chugai Pharmaceuticals), and the external use corticosteroid drug, Meiser in the capacity of manager for these products within the Clinical Development Division, subsequently obtaining approval for both products. Mr Endo was also responsible for the marketing of Meiser in the capacity of product manager. Working together with distributors, he achieved the target of developing the product into the top drug of choice.

    In 1988, Mr Endo was appointed Manager of the Clinical Development Division, where he led development of the serotonin -antagonist Anplag which became the first in the world to obtain manufacturing approval for it as the 5-HT2 antagonist. Thereafter he was seconded with 20 employees to Tokyo Tanabe Seiyaku Co., Ltd. - a distributor of the pharmaceutical, where he was appointed Sales Division Manager. He directed marketing and fostered the pharmaceutical to the rank as the company’s No.1 product. He was awarded the 27th Japan Chemical Society Technical Prize along with the commendation by the President of Mitsubishi Kagaku for sales achievements.

    Following this, Mr Endo revamped the system of statistical analysis used in the development of pharmaceuticals while leading development of Radicut, pharmaceutical for acute cerebral infarction, along with five other products. While at Mitsubishi Kagaku BCL he promoted the enterprise and launch of the SMO (Site Management Organization) business that currently constitutes a mainstay of revenue for the same company. Mr Endo has over 30 years of broad-ranging experience not only in development and marketing but also in the establishment of pharmaceutical related businesses and the training of personnel.

    Prior to joining Nobelpharma, and as a forerunner to obtaining manufacturing approval for Radicut, Mr Endo was seconded to Mitsubishi-Tokyo Pharmaceuticals, Inc. to prepare the marketing plan for the drug. He was engaged in the marketing of Radicut and Novastan as a Strategic Manager of the Cerebral area. Sales of Radicut commenced in June 2001, achieving sales revenues of 18 billion yen on a drug price basis.
